TANGENTIAL / CROSS-FLOW FANS

SWAT TF 500 & SWAT TF 1000

Both the SWAT TF 500 and SWAT TF 1000 use tangential (cross-flow) drum fans with forward-curved blades that discharge airflow along the full length of the drum. These are high-volume, low-exit-velocity units with minimal pressure. In NWCI’s comparison, the axial fan / cannon has lower volume and higher exit pressure.

The tangential outlet gives roughly 65% more shear-layer edge for the same outlet area. Our 47-inch × 7.3-inch slot has a perimeter of approximately 109 inches, compared with approximately 66 inches for an equal-area circular cannon outlet. NWCI reports nearly twice the airflow in CFM in its comparison, and approximately 50% more power required by the axial fan to achieve equivalent CFM. The airflow and power figures are performance comparisons, separate from the outlet-perimeter calculation; contact NWCI for the supporting test conditions.

The two-stage atomizer breaks the mist into fine droplets while preserving the airflow pattern.

Placement is important. Position these units so the prevailing winds carry the mist into a curtain around the working face.

ROTARY FAN UNITS

SWAT RF 500 & field applications

The SWAT RF 500 is a mobile platform for odor control and dust suppression. Rotary fan heads distribute mist where the equipment is positioned.

Bring the equipment to the source of the odor or dust. The photographs show rotary fan units and their placement beside the waste and working face.

The RF 500 brochure also describes topical application through the spray cannon.
