American Company’s Products Solving
Air Quality Environmental Issues in Japan
Perrysburg, Ohio, USA - New Waste Concepts, Inc. has
just completed a manufacturing license agreement with Japan’s Kurita Water Industries Ltd. allowing that
company to manufacture and market New Waste’s complete line of patented
landfill cover materials.
In Japan, landfills are small, neat operations and,
because of space concerns, most of their solid waste is incinerated. Blowing
ash can contain toxic substances that may be harmful to human health. This is
a major environmental concern because the landfills are situated near heavily
populated residential areas.
New Waste’s ConCover landfill cover
material, spray applied daily, prevents the harmful ash from becoming airborne
while controlling other volatile organic compounds as well. Further, the useful
life of the landfill is extended because the spray-applied cover material is
only ¼” thick compared to soil that must be applied at a depth of
6”. Because one operator can apply ConCover, significant labor
and equipment savings are also realized.
Kurita, based in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo,
contacted New Waste Concepts 7 years ago to become a distributor of their products.
Since then, following Japanese protocol, Kurita has worked with the Japanese
government and a major Japanese university to complete extensive landfill testing
on New Waste’s ConCover
180 Foam product. The purpose of the study was to test the ability of the ConCover line
of products to control volatile organic compounds, fugitive dust and blowing
ash.

The
results of that study and 5 successful years of distributing the ConCover product
line has led to the new licensing agreement between New Waste Concepts and Kurita.
“We will be working with Kurita in the coming months on sourcing raw materials, blending
techniques, and other technical specifications”, said Milton F. Knight,
CEO of New Waste.
Kurita is one of the leading providers of water treatment equipment
in Japan. Kurita has developed and markets a very sophisticated CAPS (ConCover all
purpose sprayer) machine that operates on a tracked, motorized chassis. The operator
can apply ConCover with a water-spray slurry canon directed with a joy
stick from an air conditioned cab. After each application of the cover material,
with the operator’s push of a button, the CAPS machine will initiate a
thorough self-clean sequence.
New Waste Concepts’ alternate daily covers
are specified throughout the world by more landfill and remediation sites than
any other applied technology. An advanced blend of polymers and recycled fiber,
these landfill covers create a slurry when mixed with water. When sprayed over
most surfaces, they form a uniform encapsulating layer, 1/8” – 1/4” thick,
between waste and the environment, providing reliable daily coverage in a variety
of climatic conditions. NWCI alternative daily covers are biodegradable, nonflammable
and nontoxic.
New Waste Concepts helps landfill
operators and remediation contractors reduce costs, improve efficiency and comply
with environmental regulations. Their products include daily and long-term covers
and litter, odor, dust, and erosion control solutions. In each category, New
Waste offers a spectrum of products to enable each customer to select the one
that’s perfectly suited for his
unique application.
